Custom pipeline stages

On the Pro plan, you can customize the pipeline stages for each job to match your exact hiring process.

Why custom stages?

Different roles have different hiring processes. An engineering hire might need a "Take-home Test" stage. A sales role might need "Reference Check." Custom stages let you reflect your actual process instead of forcing it into a generic template.

Managing stages

Go to a job's Settings tab and open the Pipeline Stages section:

  • Add a stage — click Add Stage and name it. It appears as a new column in your board.
  • Rename a stage — click the stage name to edit it inline.
  • Reorder stages — drag stages to change the order they appear in the board.
  • Delete a stage — remove a custom stage. Any candidates in that stage must be moved first.

Per-job stages

Stage configurations are per-job. Job A can have stages: New → Phone Screen → Technical Interview → Offer → Hired, while Job B uses the defaults. Changes to one job's stages don't affect others.

Stage email templates

Each custom stage can have an automated email template, just like the default stages. Configure stage emails under the job's Settings → Stage Emails. See the Automated stage emails article for details.

Plan requirement

Custom stages require a Pro or Business plan. On Free and Starter plans, you can use the five default stages but cannot add, rename, or reorder them.
